Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Josh Brown and Colin Munro opened the match for Brisbane Heat. In the first over, Colin Munro, without scoring any runs, was dismissed for a golden duck by Gurinder Sandhu.

Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney took charge of the match, forming a 100-plus partnership for the second wicket. Despite Josh Brown being dropped once and surviving a run-out scare, he eventually fell victim to Daniel Sams.

After Brown’s dismissal, Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings played remarkable innings, with Renshaw contributing 17 runs before being dismissed by Tanveer Sangha, and Sam Billings adding 23 runs. After the dismissals of Billings and McSweeney, no other Brisbane Heat batsmen showed significant batting performance, and wickets fell consistently.

Sydney Thunder had an excellent start but encountered difficulties later on. Cameron Bancroft and Alex Hales initiated the run chase for 173 runs, with both players scoring well and securing regular boundaries. During the power play, Sydney Thunder accumulated 45 runs without losing a wicket.
