IND v SA 1st Test: Virat breaking Sachin’s record, establishing himself as the highest run-scorer for India across all formats in South Africa. During the Boxing Day Test between South Africa and India in Centurion, Virat Kohli broke his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record total of 1724 runs across all formats for India.

Although wickets fall at rapid intervals, Virat Kohli emerged as the solitary warrior in the second innings for India. Despite securing his 30th Test fifty, India faced defeat in the first Test.

Despite getting out for 38 in the first innings, Virat Kohli appeared in good form during the second innings, although India lost early wickets after trailing by 163 runs in the first innings.

Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s total of 1724 runs across all formats for India.

In ODIs, the former India captain leads the Indian batting charts with 898 runs at an impressive average of 74.83.

During the Boxing Day Test between South Africa and India at SuperSport Park, Centurion, Virat Kohli achieved 2000+ runs in a calendar year for the record seventh time. With this achievement, Virat Kohli surpassed Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara’s record, who achieved this six times and held the second position in terms of 2000+ runs in a calendar year.

Till now, Virat Kohli has played 112 test matches, 292 One Day International (ODI) matches, and 115 T20 International matches. In the Test match he scored 8790 runs with a batting average of 49.38 and the highest score is 254*. In Test career, Virat Kohli scored 29 century and 30 half-century.

To achieve 2000+ runs across formats in 2023, Virat Kohli needed 66 runs before the first Test between India and South Africa. In the first inning, he scored only 38 runs but in the second innings Kohli further adding 28 runs surpassing Kumar Sangakkara’s record, add another milestone to his career.
