The announcement of MS Dhoni’s that he would continue to be a part in the IPL 2024 after CSK won the fifth IPL trophy, brought a joy to the hearts of Chennai Super Kings fans.

Dhoni expressed, “I wanted to become a soldier, not a cricketer. Since childhood, I wanted to join the Army. Seeing the soldiers, I thought that one day I’ll be the same.” Dhoni served as an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army (106 Para TA battalion).

When asked a question to MS Dhoni about his plans beyond cricket, in this response, Dhoni said,” I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be very interesting to see what I end up doing after cricket. Dhoni led the Indian team in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, which was co-hosted by India. Under Dhoni’s leadership India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka in the final match. Sri Lanka scored 274/6 in final match where Mahela Jayawardene scored 103 runs but in response India chased down the target 277/4 within 48.2 overs. MS Dhoni scoring unbeaten 91 runs from 79 balls, got the Man of the match. He hitted 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Chennai Super Kings acquired MS Dhoni for US$1.5 million during the 2008 IPL auction. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, Chennai Super Kings won five IPL trophies in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. MS Dhoni started his IPL career as captain in 2008 to till date with Chennai Super Kings. Under his leadership Chennai Super Kings reached final for 10 times where CSK won five IPL trophies.

Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK qualified for the Champions League Twenty20 and also won the 2010 Champions League as well. In 2014 again, Dhoni led CSK to second Champions League Twenty20 title.
