In the opening match of the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2024, the host country’s United States U19 team lost the toss and opted to bat. Prannav Chettipalayam and Aryaman Suri opened the innings for the USA team, but within the first over, Aryaman Suri was dismissed by Reuben Wilson, and shortly after, Prannav Chettipalayam fell victim to Oliver Riley. Both openers were removed within the sixth over.
Siddarth Kappa, scoring 3 runs, also fell to Oliver Riley, and captain Rishi Ramesh, contributing 9 runs, was dismissed by John McNally. Oliver Riley sent Utkarsh Srivastava back to the pavilion without scoring. By the 10th over, the USA U19 team had only managed to score 31 runs with the loss of 4 wickets.
Amogh Arepally added 11 runs, Parth Patel contributed 13 runs, Rayaan Bhagani scored 9, and Ateendra Subramanian made 8 runs. Khush Bhalala remained unbeaten with 22 runs, emerging as the highest run-scorer for the USA U19 team. USA U19 team scored a total of 105/10 within 40.2 overs.
Reuben Wilson and Oliver Riley each secured three wickets, while John McNally claimed two wickets. Carson McCullough and Scott MacBeth each managed to take one wicket apiece.

Ireland’s captain, Philippus le Roux, chose to bat first after winning the toss. In response, the USA U19 team, losing all wickets, could only manage to score 105 runs, with Khush Bhalala emerging as the top scorer.
Ireland’s opening pair, Jordan Neill and Ryan Hunter initiated the second innings, beginning the pursuit of the 106-run target. However, in the first over, Arya Garg dismissed Jordan Neill, similar to how Aryaman Suri was removed by the Ireland team. Neill managed only a boundary. In the third over, Arya Garg struck again, sending Gavin Roulston to a golden duck. Wickets continued to fall in quick succession, while wicket-keeper Ryan Hunter stood firm on the other end.
Hunter displayed an outstanding batting performance, effectively countering Arya Garg and implementing a consistent wicket-preserving strategy. The USA encountered difficulties in bowling, as bowlers, excluding Arya Garg and Khush Bhalala, struggled to take wickets and failed to deliver their best performance.
In a partnership with Kian Hilton, Ryan Hunter played a significant innings, contributing 23 runs before being dismissed by Khush Bhalala. Captain Philippus le Roux then joined forces with Ryan Hunter, adding 23 runs to the scoreboard. In the inaugural match of the ICC U19 World Cup, Ryan Hunter secured his first half-century. Ireland reached a total of 109/3 and achieved victory within 22.5 overs.
From the USA side, Arya Garg took two wickets, while Khush Bhalala secured one. Ireland became the first team to win a match in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024.
