South Africa U19 Innings

Having lost the toss and put into bat, South Africa faced an early setback with Stolk departing cheaply by Deshawn James. Pretorius and David Teeger then stabilized the innings with a decent partnership until Pretorius fell victim to a superb delivery from Nathan Sealy.

The West Indies spinners performed well in the middle overs, causing Teeger to struggle for collecting runs and putting pressure on the other batsmen, resulting in a slowdown.

However, Dewan Marais and captain Juan James joining forces, and consistently added runs to the scoreboard. Once settled, both batsmen unleashed some powerful shots, forming a crucial 131-run partnership that put South Africa on a favorable trajectory.

Particular Marais displayed destructive batting and notched up a brilliant fifty. His aggressive play ensured that the South Africa scored a total of 285/9. Proteas managed to post a formidable total on the scoreboard, strong finish in the death overs.

Nathan Sealy stood out as the top-performing bowler, finishing with three wickets. Nathan Edwards and Deshawn James each secured two wickets.

West Indies U19 Innings

The West Indies team’s opening pair, Adrian Weir and Captain Stephan Pascal, initiated the second innings, commencing the pursuit of a 286-run target. However, Stephan Pascal fell prey to Kwena Maphaka early in the innings, setting the West Indies back. Soon after, Joshua Dorne was also dismissed lbw by Maphaka. The early setbacks, including the sent back of both openers, put the West Indies in a precarious position.

Although Jordan Johnson and Steve Wedderburn spent some time at the crease, their partnerships were short-lived. By the 10th over, the West Indies found themselves at 73/5, facing the likelihood of a significant defeat.

Yet, the duo of Jewel Andrew and Nathan Sealy revitalized the West Indies’ chances in the run chase. Jewel exhibited exceptional batting skills under challenging conditions against the South African bowlers, achieving a remarkable century. Unfortunately, when Jewel Andrew was dismissed in the 40th over, the West Indies’ hopes dwindled.

Kwena Maphaka secured a five-wicket haul, while Riley Norton claimed three wickets, and David Teeger took one. In the critical moments of the game, South Africa emerged victorious. Despite Jewel’s valiant effort, Maphaka’s decisive performance led the South African team to triumph.
