Captain Bavuma was sidelined due to a hamstring strain, leaving South Africa without his services. Despite the early loss of Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar showcased a superb and confident innings, maintaining the momentum. Alongside de Zorzi, Elgar navigated through the innings.

Bumrah’s returning spell proved fruitful for India, claiming a couple of wickets. However, South Africa further strengthened their position with a notable 131-run partnership between debutant Bedingham and Elgar. The newcomer reached a fifty before Siraj dismissed him. Jansen joined with Elgar.

Dean Elgar’s splendid century positioned South Africa strongly in this match. Although Bumrah and Siraj maintained tight control, the momentum couldn’t be sustained by the other Indian bowlers. Jansen secured his half-century, contributing to a substantial 111-run partnership for the 7th wicket before Elgar was dismissed by Shardul Thakur. Coetzee fell quickly to Ashwin in the final over, but Jansen continued to bat.

While Marco Jansen fell short of a century, his commendable innings remained unbeaten. The foundation for this lead was laid by Dean Elgar’s impressive 185, and debutant Bedingham, along with later contributions from Marco Jansen, further solidified South Africa’s commanding position in the match. In the first innings, India posted a sub-total of 245 runs, while South Africa responded with a total of 408 runs, establishing a lead of 163 runs.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the second innings, Rohit was dismissed for a duck. Once again Rohit dismissed by Rabada and Nandre Burger removed Yashasvi Jaiswal. Gill contributed 26 runs before departing, and Shreyas Iyer was dismissed by Marco Jansen. Four of the top seven batsmen scored in single digits, with only Virat Kohli performing well in the second innings. Kohli emerged as the lone fighter, but other batsmen failed to make significant contributions.
