Bishnoi bowled in Second Super Over: In the second Super Over against Afghanistan both Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan were prepared to bowl but in last moment captain Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on January 17.
In the third T20I against Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, India won the toss, captain Rohit Sharma elected to bat. India at 22/4 in 4.3 overs, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson early. Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh gradually increase his tempo then geared up the batting tempo, at the end of 20 overs, India posted a formidable total of 212 runs. In response Afghanistan batter collect same 212 runs where Gulbadin Nabi scored remain unbeaten 23-ball 55* and Mohammad Nabi 34 run off 16. So, the match tied and to finalise the match Super Over started.
Dravid praises Rohit Sharma for choosing Bishnoi in the 2nd Super Over
Rahul Dravid head coach of India said in the post-match press conference, “it was Rohit’s idea to give the ball to Ravi Bishnoi. No gimmicks, no strategy, just a simple decision in the end. I think when Rohit went with Bishnoi, he is with his gut feeling. I think he felt that the spinner had a chance to take two wickets. I think it was really good gut call from Rohit, to go for wickets ”
In the first super over match, Afghanistan scored 16 runs. In response India also scored 16 runs where Rohit Sharma hit 2 sixes. Again, the first Super Over tied. Then the second super over was played between the two teams, in which India batting first scored 11 runs but Afghanistan loses first wicket in the first ball of Ravi Bishnoi, then in the third ball Gurbaz caught out, the Afghanistan team had to face defeat by 10 runs. India eventually won the second Super Over, with Rohit hitting a six and a four.
What did Ravi Bishnoi say about the 2nd Super Over?
After the match Ravi Bishnoi said to Jio Cinema, “Both of us (he and Avesh) were told to be ready but when Rohit saw two right-handers coming in, he asked me to bowl with the bigger leg-side boundary.”
Bishnoi bowled in Second Super Over
According to ICC’s Super Over playing conditions, Mukesh Kumar bowled in the first Super Over, he can’t bowl in the second Super Over. That’s why Ravi Bishnoi and pacer Avesh Khan were observed warming up and preparing to bowl. It seems to be Avesh Khan bowl in the second Super Over as he handed over his cap to the umpire and proceeded to his bowling mark.
But the scenario was completely changed when captain Rohit Sharma enter into the field and Afghan batters Mohammad Nabi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz enter into the crease. Avesh Khan was retrieving his cap from the umpire. He was substituted by Ravi Bishnoi on the bowling mark. As both Afghan players were right-handed batsmen, Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to Bishnoi. Ravi Bishnoi bowled in Second Super Over.
Bishnoi delivered an excellent first ball and encouraged Nabi to hit the ball towards the larger leg-side boundary. He also hit like this and the ball straight goes towards Rinku Singh at long-off. After Nabi, Karim Janat came in, and Ravi Bishnoi delivered a full-wide length ball to Janat, he pushed towards covers for a single. Gurbaz strike in the third ball, Bishnoi aimed to bowl a similar delivery like that Nabi out. Gurbaz hit the ball but the connection was not solid. The ball went straight to Rinku, who secured his second catch.
According to the ICC Super Over Rule, when a team loses two wickets in a Super Over before scoring the winning run, that team will lose the game, so, Afghanistan loses the second Super Over and also the third T20I. As a result India finally won the 3rd T20I and clinched the series 3-0.
