India World Cup Journey from Bangladesh to Final: Currently, the Indian U19 team is captained by Uday Saharan. India’s journey to the final was highly impressive, with six consecutive victories. As a successful cricket team, India’s success is based on the performances of their top and middle-order batsmen, the bowling unit, and the fielding side. All three departments played a crucial role in India’s success, enabling them to win all six matches in the league stage, Super Six, and the semi-final.

India now experiences their fifth consecutive final appearance in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024.

Match 1, India vs Bangladesh in Bloemfontein

India Under-19 kicked off their campaign with a comprehensive win over old rivals Bangladesh Under-19. India won by 84 runs.

India U19 team batting first scored total 251/7. Adarsh Singh in partnership with captain Uday Saharan played a crucial innings. Adarsh Singh as the top scorer for India with 76 runs, got the player of the match. In response Bangladesh U19 team all out within 45.5 overs, scored only 167 runs.

Match 2, India vs Ireland in Bloemfontein

Ireland won the toss and offered India to bat first. Musheer Khan took the batting charge and notched up their first century of the competition, hitting nine fours and four sixes, scored 118 runs from 106 balls. Skipper Uday Saharan provided valuable support with his 75 runs while Sachin Dhas’ 21* from nine balls propelled India to score 301/7. From Ireland Oliver Riley secured three wickets while John McNally got two.

In response Ireland team’s batters did not stand for a long time against Naman Tiwari and Saumy Pandey’s bowling attack. Naman Tiwari claimed four-wickets haul in the first game while Saumy Pandey picked up three wickets as India secured a commanding victory by 201 runs. Ireland team scored total 100/10 within 29.4 overs.

Match 3, India vs USA in Bloemfontein

Winning toss USA team requested of their opponents to bat first. India once again batted first collecting a total of 326/5. India’s openers Adarsh Singh and Arshin Kulkarni both started well. Arshin Kulkarni performed well and hit his first century in this competition of 108 runs. Musheer Khan who hit a century in the previous game against Ireland also contributed with 73 runs, helped India to achieve 326/5 their first-highest total in this World Cup journey.

Again, Naman Tiwari’s bowling attack with a four-wicket haul, the USA team scored a total of 125 runs with the loss of 8 wickets. One good thing is that the USA team did not lose all wickets against India’s bowling threat.

Arshin Kulkarni got Player of the match.

Super Six (Group 1)

India vs New Zealand,  Match 1, in Bloemfontein

India dominated all their group stage matches, but in Super Six India faced off New Zealand. The New Zealand team won the toss and allowed India to bat first.

Despite losing Arshin Kulkarni early in the innings, a strong opening partnership between Adarsh Singh and Musheer Khan propelled India to score a strong total. India continued to attack and build towards a formidable total, despite Adarsh Singh’s dismissal at 52. Musheer hit his second century of the tournament, an exceptional innings of 131 runs off 126 balls, helping India to a total of 295/8.

Limbani’s double-wicket in the first over provided India with an excellent start in the bowling department accompanied with Saumy Pandey’s outstanding figures 4/19. New Zealand could not reach 100 and was eventually bowled out for 81 runs. India secured a place in the semi-finals.

India vs Nepal, Match 2, in Bloemfontein

India won the toss and chose to bat first against the Nepal team. Despite losing three early wickets, Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas’s crucial partnership India scored a total of 297/5. Both Saharan and Dhas hit their first century in this U19 World Cup. Their partnership of 215 runs was India’s highest-ever total partnership in the history of U19 World Cup cricket. Gulshan Jha secured three wickets.

Saumy Pandey’s 4/29, Nepal team did not bat well with captain Dev Khanal as the only batter to collect 33 runs, Nepal team scored a total of 165/9, ensured India an easy win. This victory allowed India to top Group 1 of the Super Six stage and enter the semi-final.

Semi-final 1, India vs South Africa in Benoni

Despite suffering two early setbacks, South Africa maintained a positive approach despite losing two early wickets. Lhuan-Dre Pretorius’s 76 runs and Richard Seletswane 64 runs, South Africa scored 244/7. Raj Limbani secured three wickets while Musheer Khan two.

Kwena Maphaka and Tristan Luus’s bowling attack heavy on India’s top-order reducing them to 32/4. However, Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas who once again come for rescue, gradually steered the innings. Their partnership of 171 runs is the highest-ever for the fifth wicket partnership. Saharan contributed 81 runs while Sachin Dhas 91 runs, India ultimately chased down the target with two wickets in hand.

Saharan got the Player of the Match.
