Choosing to bat, Afghanistan faced another slow start, a persistent issue for them over an extended period. Despite building a fifty partnership, both openers were dismissed within three deliveries, leaving Afghanistan at 57/3 by the 10th over.
India commenced their innings at a slow pace, maintaining disciplined bowling. Afghanistan attempted to accelerate the innings, but they started losing wickets. Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah then teamed up to inject some momentum into the innings, particularly targeting Ravi Bishnoi, who conceded 35 runs in his 3 overs. The duo formed a crucial half-century partnership, but Mukesh dismissed both set batters in the 18th over. Nabi contributed a vital 42 runs off 27 balls.
In the last two overs, Najibullah and Karim Janat managed to strike five boundaries, with Najibullah adding 19 runs from 11 balls to remain unbeaten. Afghanistan concluded their innings at 158/5, achieving their highest total against India, surpassing the previous record of 144/7 set in Abu Dhabi during the T20 World Cup 2021.

Restricting Afghanistan to 158, India secured a comfortable victory, but India faced an early setback with Rohit Sharma getting dismissed for a duck in the very first over due to a misunderstanding with his opening partner Shubman Gill.
Gill hit five boundaries before being dismissed to Mujeeb. Despite scoring only 36 runs in the powerplay, India accelerated their run rate. Tilak Verma scored 26 runs, removed by Azmatullah. Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube then built a solid 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket, ensuring India remained in control of the chase. Jitesh Sharma in partnership with Dube played a crucial innings.
Shivam Dube stayed unbeaten till the end, hitting the winning runs of 60 runs off 40 balls. India won by 6 wickets within 17.3 overs. For Shivam Dubey, it’s a golden opportunity to showcase their talents for the 2024 World Cup, who could serve as a backup for Hardik.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman took two wickets while Azmatullah Omarzai claimed one wicket.
