ICC announced squads, Under-19 men’s ODI World Cup 2024, the Fifteenth edition of Under-19 World Cup is set to take place in South Africa from 19 January to 11 February 2024.
Sri Lanka was the host country for the Under-19 men’s ODI World Cup 2024, but the venue was later changed to South Africa as the International Cricket Council (ICC) made suspension to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
Sixteen teams are scheduled to participate in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa 2024, competing in a total of 41 matches, ICC announced squads.
Host Nation – South Africa
Automatic qualification – Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe
Regional qualification – Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland, United States
Format
Sixteen teams have been categorized into four groups: Group A, B, C, and D. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage.
In the placement stage, the fourth-placed teams in Group A and D will compete against each other, while the fourth-placed teams in Group B and C will face each other.
During the Super Six stage, the top three teams from Group A and D will form one group, while the top three teams from Group B and C will constitute another group. Each team will carry forward the points, wins, and Net Run Rate (NRR) earned against their fellow Super Six qualifying teams.
In the Super Six stage, each team will play two matches against opponents from the corresponding group that finished in a different position in the group stage. For instance, the A1 team will play only against D2 and D3 in the Super Six. Similarly, A2 will face only D1 and D3, and so forth.
The top two teams from each group in the Super Six stage will then proceed to the semi-finals.
