BCCI declared Invitation of Tender for Title Sponsor Rights of IPL 2024-2028 Seasons on 12th Dec, 2023. Now the sponsorship of IPL title is going to be finished in 2023, BCCI has issued a new tender in this regard.

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is inviting bids from reputable entities to acquire the Title Sponsor Rights for the Indian Premier League Seasons 2024-2028. Interested parties are requested to email the details of payment made for the purchase of the ITT to ipltitlesponsor2023.itt@bcci.tv.  The cricket board has announced that the tender document will be available for purchase until January 8, 2024.

As a result, Tata will possess the right, though not an obligation, to match the highest bid within five working days from the date of opening the financial bids and communicate its intention to the BCCI.

The BCCI clarified, If Tata chooses to exercise its right to match the highest bid, the BCCI will be obliged to award the title sponsorship rights for the specified period to the company.

It barred brand categories like-

  • Alcohol Products
  • Betting
  • Cryptocurrency
  • Real Money Gaming (excluding fantasy sports gaming)
  • Tobacco
  • Brands likely to offend public morals, including but not limited to, pornography.

While on one hand preparations are going on for IPL2024 season, on the other hand on Tuesday the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a new tender for the IPL title sponsor for next season.

IPL will be organized not with Tata IPL but with a new sponsor in the next season. Tata will not be able to listen to IPL, but who will get the sponsorship of IPL title, however that was not clear yet.

Before Tata who had the sponsorship of IPL

Tata had taken sponsorship of IPL trophy from BCCI for 2 years. Tata had got sponsorship from the year 2022 to 2023. Before Tata, the sponsorship of the IPL trophy was with Chinese company Vivo, it had the sponsorship of the IPL trophy for three seasons. He had taken the sponsorship by paying the highest amount so far. He had given Rs. 880 crore to BCCI for sponsorship in the 2018 to 2019 IPL season.

Before Tata, the sponsorship of the IPL trophy was with the Chinese company ViVO, after the India and China border dispute, it left the sponsorship.

In the year 2020, Dream11 took sponsorship of the IPL title for Rs. 222 crores, after which it once again bought it in the year 2021.

The BCCI also stated that it reserves the right to cancel or modify the bidding process at any stage and in any manner without providing any reason.

On 12th December, BCCI declared invitation of tender for Title Sponsor Rights of IPL 2024-2028 Seasons. Tata currently holds the title sponsorship of the tournament until the end of the 2023 season. Tata assumed the sponsorship from Vivo after the Chinese mobile manufacturers had to exit due to political tensions.

The Tata Group replaced the Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo in 2022, amid political tensions at the time. Vivo’s sponsorship rights had been put on hold in 2020 during cross-border tensions between India and China. Dream XI assumed the sponsorship from Vivo for a two-year period, and the Tata Group took over from there.

2008 to 2012 – DLF (40 CRORE PER ANNUM)

2013 to 2015 – PEPSI (79.4 CRORE PER ANNUM)

2016 to 2017 – VIVO (100 CRORES PER ANNUM)

2018 to 2019 – VIVO (439.8 CRORES PER ANNUM)

2020 – DREAM 11 (222 CRORES PER ANNUM)

2021 – VIVO IPL (439.8 CRORES PER ANNUM)

2022 to 2023 – TATA GROUP (335 CRORES PER ANNUM)
