Sandeep Lamichhane Nepal cricketer convicted of rape, was born on 2 August 2000 at Aruchaur, Syangja, Nepal.  Nepal’s former cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane who was arrested in August last year, after a 17-year-old girl brought an allegation that Lamichhane raped her in a hotel room in Kathmandu, was released on bail in January by a Nepal court. According to the Kathmandu Post, Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal passed the order on Friday. The Kathmandu District Court on Friday convicted Sandeep Lamichhane of rape of a 17-year-old girl in a hotel room in Kathmandu. The District Court concluded that the girl was not a minor at the time of the rape. The next hearing will conclude, with what type of punishment will Sandeep Lamichhhane get.

Nepal’s national cricket team’s former captain Sandeep Lamichhane, on Friday, was convicted of rape. On 6th September 2022, a girl filed a complaint against Sandeep Lamichhane, accusing of raping her on 21 August night in a hotel room in Kathmandu. Police verified the CCTV footage of the hotel and disclosed that Sandeep Lamichhane remained with this girl. Kathmandu District Court ordered an arrest warrant was issued against him. During that time, he played Caribbean Premier League but pulled out from this league due to this allegation. As a consequence, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) suspended Sandeep Lamichhane from the Nepal national team. On Dec 29, Sandeep Lamichhane Nepal cricketer convicted of rape.

Lamichhane was taken into custody by the police on 6th October 2022 by Nepal police. He was remanded for 18 days for investigation.

Sandeep Lamichhane made history as the first cricketer from Nepal to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he debuted for the Delhi Capitals in 2018. Delhi Capitals acquired him for Rs 20.00 Lac.

On his debut match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he claimed one wicket for 25 runs. Throughout the tournament, he took five wickets in three matches, boasting a bowling average of 16.40.

Apart from his IPL journey, Lamichhane made his Twenty20 international debut against the West Indies, representing the World XI. He played a crucial role as part of Nepal’s playing XI in his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2018 against the Netherlands. Lamichhane considers cricket legends Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar as his idols and a source of inspiration, striving to reach their levels of excellence.

He also became the first Nepal cricketer to be elected to the Caribbean Premier League and enlisted to play for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League.

Sandeep Lamichhane became the first player to play in Big Bash League (BBL). In 2018 he signed with Melbourne Stars. But in November 2020, the right-handed leg spinner joined the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2020–21 Big Bash League.

Sandeep Lamichhane posted, with a heavy heart, ”I have decided to withdraw my name from the upcoming tournament. I have been going through difficult and challenging times of my life and realise I need to revitalise myself and needed family time. I want to express my gratitude for all the blessings and wishes I have received thus far. Thank you everyone. Until we meet again.”
