Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan set the foundation stone earlier. Rohit batted aggressively in the powerplay as usual. But Axar Patel ended his innings on 49 runs and also sent SKY to golden duck. Then Axar Patel takes a stunning return catch to dismiss the dangerous-looking Ishan Kishan. Khaleel Ahmed claims his first wicket of Tilak Varma.
However, there is a quick succession of wickets that sees MI slip to 121/4. But Hardik Pandya was joined by Tim David, and they built another partnership. Then, the late heroics Romario Shepherd emerges unexpectedly to smash a quickfire 39 off just 10 balls. MI posts an imposing total of 234.
Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje both claimed two wickets. Khaleel Ahmed secured one wicket.

Defending 235 runs was always going to be tough, even at the Wankhede, but DC didn’t bat well. Warner’s dismissal by Romario Shepherd, DC found difficulty in chasing. Prithvi Shaw played a solid innings of 66 runs off 40 balls and Abhishek Porel, who came in at No. 3, played well of 41 runs but couldn’t accelerate the scoring rate. Pant struggled to collect runs.
However, Tristan Stubbs made a valiant attempt throughout the innings, despite receiving little support from his teammates since his arrival at the crease.
Bumrah had a significant impact for MI. Gerald Coetzee secured four wickets. In the end, Hardik and his team finally won their 1st match in IPL 2024.
