Match Preview

After their initial loss to the Rajasthan Royals, the Lucknow Super Giants have made a strong comeback, securing victories against the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mayank Yadav, known for his pace, has been exceptional, playing a key role in LSG’s victories with his consistently high-speed deliveries. Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran have also been aggressive with the bat, punishing the opposition bowlers and helping the Giants post imposing totals in their last two matches. LSG has never defeated GT before.

Lucknow Super Giants Innings

Quinton de Kock and Padikkal fell early, KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis built a solid partnership of 73 runs after the early setback, albeit at a slow pace. Just as KL tried to increase the scoring rate, he was dismissed by Darshan Nalkande. Stoinis appeared dangerous but fell after hitting a couple of sixes against Nalkande in the same over.

The late acceleration didn’t materialize as Rashid and Spencer Johnson bowled superbly. Nicholas Pooran struggled to collect runs, managed score 32 runs off 22 balls. LSG score a total of 163/5.

Umesh Yadav and Darshan Nalkande both secured two wickets each. Rashid Khan claimed one wicket only.

Gujarat Titans Innings

Impressive victory for the hosts! At the halfway mark, many of us felt that 163 was below par. However, LSG has a knack for defending totals above 160. It’s noteworthy that GT also made a brisk start with the bat. In Saha’s absence, Sai Sudharsan opened the innings with Gill, and the stylish left-hander wasted no time in getting going. They formed the first 50-plus opening partnership for the Titans this season, with Sudharsan taking the aggressive approach.

Naveen-ul-Haq conceded a couple of boundaries in his first over, while Mayank Yadav leaked three fours in his opening over. However, Siddharth committed three front-foot no-balls in an over following a couple of tight overs. Yash Thakur provided the breakthrough for LSG by bowling out the GT captain with a quick full delivery off the final ball of the powerplay, triggering a collapse.

KL Rahul turned to his experienced spinners, who delivered brilliantly. Bishnoi took a stunning catch off his own bowling to dismiss KW, and Krunal Pandya cleverly varied his pace to claim three wickets. GT slumped from 54/0 to 80/5 and couldn’t recover. Thakur, who initiated the breakthrough, returned to finish with impressive figures of 5/30, stepping up for his team after Mayank Yadav exited the field with a side strain.
