India vs England Updated Test Squads 2024: The series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, where India currently holds the second position on the table and Australia maintained the top position by defeating Pakistan.
India’s standout batsman Virat Kohli will be absent for the initial two Tests against England. Due to some personal reasons, Virat requested Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be excluded from the squad for the first two Tests against England.
Virat Kohli also absents from the first T20I against Afghanistan at home due to personal reasons but returned for the remaining two games. Kohli recently participated in the Test series against South Africa, where India managed to stage a comeback and draw the series 1-1
The BCCI stated, “Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.”
“The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series. ”

Harry Brook Absent from Test Series in India:
Due to personal reasons, Harry Brook also withdrew his name from England’s Test squad scheduled to tour India. In response, England added Dan Lawrence as his replacement.
The ECB said, “Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.”
England arrived in India on Sunday but due to Visa issue, Shoaib Bashir could not reach on Sunday with the England team. England head coach Brendon McCullum, “Bash is still likely to be available for the first Test starting January 25, he’s got a couple of issues with his visa coming through. We’re confident on the back of the help from the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the Indian government that it will sort itself out pretty quickly as well.”
