India vs England 5th Test update, Devdutt Padikkal is set to replace Rajat Patidar in the 5th test against England and will make his debut in Dharamsala as KL Rahul is not fit to play.

Devdutt Padikkal is likely to debut in the fifth and final match against England in Dharamsala, starting March 7. Rajat Patidar who debuted in the second test against England in Vizag, did not play well scoring 9, 5, 0, 17, and 0 respectively from five innings, in total he scored only 31 runs from those 3 tests.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) released that KL Rahul has not fully recovered, who was 90 percent fit in the third test in Rajkot has been sent to London for an expert opinion, and his treatment undergoing since a week.

Rahul suffering in his right quadriceps for which he had undergone surgery last year. It is clearly understood that he still has some stiffness.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared an updated test squad ahead of the fifth and final Test match against England, starting on 7 March in Dharamsala.

KL Rahul, whose participation in the final IDFC First Bank Test was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring him and coordinating with specialists in London for further management of his issue.

The BCCI also confirms that his fitness at 90 percent makes his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Based on his performance in IPL 2024, the selection committee considered his selection for the Twenty20 World Cup 2024 which will be started from 1st June 2024. Rahul is the captain and wicket-keeper of Lucknow Super Giants, where he played in the middle order.

Also, India Vice-Captain Jasprit Bumrah who was released from the squad for the 4th Test in Ranchi, will link up with the squad in Dharamsala for the 5th Test. Bumrah secured 17 wickets at an average of 13.64 and got the Player of the Match award where he claimed nine wickets in the second Test in Visakhapatnam.

Washington Sundar has been released from the squad. He will join Tamil Nadu, his Ranji Trophy side, for their Ranji Trophy Semi-final fixture against Mumbai, starting March 2nd, 2024. Sunder did not play any test match in this undergoing test series against England till date. If need be, he will join the India squad after the completion of the domestic fixture for the fifth Test in Dharamsala.

The BCCI also updated on Mohammad Shami’s injury. He successfully underwent surgery on 26th February 2024 for his right heel problem. He is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation process. Last Shami played in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final against Australia in November 2023, where he became the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
