Amazon Prime Video has obtained the broadcasting rights for the World Cup in Australia. The International Cricket Council (ICC) finalized the agreement with the Amazon Prime Video about two weeks after Pat Cummins’ Australia team won the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023.

Amazon Prime Video has obtained the broadcasting rights for all ICC events in Australia for the upcoming four years, commencing with the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA.

During the current four-year rights cycle, no ICC event has been scheduled to take place in the country.

Amazon Prime Video has exclusively secured the rights to broadcast Australia’s World Test Championship and ODI World Cup till 2027.

This marks the first instance of Amazon Prime acquiring cricket rights in Australia and it is also Amazon’s second instance, they will have the right to stream all the ICC events in Australia.

For the first time, Amazon Prime video streamed New Zealand’s matches in India.

Amazon Prime also acquires the broadcasting rights for the Women’s World Cup, Champions Trophy, Twenty20 World Cups, Under-19 World Cup (starting in South Africa next month), and the World Test Championship match (Final).

The new partnership implies that there would not be any free-to-air coverage of global events in Australia. No ICC event has been scheduled to take place in the country.

Both the ICC and Amazon Prime Video have officially confirmed the news. Amazon Prime issued a statement, saying, “The deal comes on the heels of the success of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which set numerous records, crowning Australia winning the trophy. This largest-ever Cricket World Cup achieved unprecedented records in stadium attendance and broadcast viewership, establishing itself as the most digitally engaged event to date. It underscores the growing appetite and demand for World Cup cricket.”

The ICC remarked, “Commencing in January 2024, the new partnership will provide cricket enthusiasts across Australia with exclusive access to all matches in every elite ICC tournament across all cricket formats, with no additional cost to a Prime membership.”

With this agreement, the ICC has successfully sold the rights in all major territories for its global games, leaving only the regions of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh uncovered.

Amazon has also revealed that the third season of the Test documentary is set to be released in 2024.

“The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team” is a series created in partnership between Amazon Prime Video and Cricket Australia.
