Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera opened the match for Sri Lanka innings. Earlier Sri Lanka lost five wickets within 1st 10 overs and scored 70/5. Tim Southee removed the opener Pathum Nissanka in the 2nd over. Only Pathum Nissanka played aggressively and achieved the fastest fifty only from 22 balls. He couldn’t convert it into a big innings, as he was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson.
Trent Boult dismissed Kusal Mendis (6), Sadeera Samarawickramac (1), Charith Asalanka (8). Angelo Mathews, who ‘Timed out’ in the previous match vs Bangladesh, also did not stay for a long time in the crease. Sri Lanka gradually lost the wickets. Mitchell Santner removed Angelo Mathews. Sri Lanka scored a total of 171/10 in 46.4 overs.
Boult gets Mendis and Samarawickrama in the same over and gets a total of 3 wickets. Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra, and Mitchell Santner each got 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka’s chances dwindled as Mitchell and Phillips contributed to finish off the game. Sri Lanka needed early wickets to make a contest, but they failed to secure them.
This was New Zealand’s eighth straight win against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
Despite losing five wickets, New Zealand never faced real trouble. This defeat also dashes Sri Lanka’s hopes for a spot in the Champions Trophy, and they now hope for Pakistan to deliver a heavy defeat to England, which would elevate Sri Lanka on the table from 9th place.
