Shubman Gill started well but couldn’t convert it into a big innings, as he dismissed by Maharaj. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer after a cautious start, began finding boundaries consistently once they settled. Shreyas Iyer in particular, picked up the pace and maintained the momentum. Both India and South Africa have already secured their spots in the semifinals, and it’s highly likely that they will conclude the league phase among the top two teams. However, the importance of maintaining their winning streak cannot be understated, as both teams understand the significance of momentum in this stage of the tournament. This outcome only results in the top two teams interchanging their positions, without affecting the overall standings.

India has maintained a flawless record in the tournament, winning all seven of their matches, with five victories coming while chasing and the last two while setting a target. In contrast, South Africa has lost just one game and secured six wins, with their surprising loss occurring against the Netherlands. South Africa has excelled when batting first, as evidenced by their impressive scores of 428, 311, 399, 382, and 357.

South Africa Innings

Quinton de Kock leading the team with a tournament-high 545 runs and recording four centuries, opening the match with Captain Temba Bavuma. However, South Africa’s ability to chase scores has raised concerns. Their loss to the Netherlands could be seen as an anomaly, but they struggled to reach 271 against Pakistan, adding to the doubts surrounding their ability to successfully chase targets. On the 2nd over Siraj bowled Quinton de Kock. South Africa scored only 35 runs with the loss of three wickets in 1st 10 overs. Jadeja dismissed Temba Bavuma and Shami removed Aiden Markram. Indian bowlers put pressure on South African batsmen.

The score of 40/5 represents the lowest point at which South Africa has lost their first five wickets in an ODI against India. Shami chipped in with two wickets, and Kuldeep finished off the tail. South Africa scored a total of 83/10 in 27.1 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja took 5 wickets, and both Kuldeep Yadav and Shami took 2 wickets each. Siraj got only 1 wicket.

India secured the top position in the points table and remains unbeaten. Their dominance in the tournament has sent a clear message to their opponents, and no one wants to face them in their current form. They are simply too formidable to handle. South Africa couldn’t even last 30 overs, and it was a complete and utter domination.

Rohit laid the foundation, Gill was dismissed by an exceptional delivery, and Kohli carried on his business as usual. Along the way, Kohli achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his 49th century on his birthday. Shreyas took his time to settle and then took on the bowlers, while Jadeja provided the final flourish to propel India to a total of 326, which always appeared to be above par.
