After winning the toss and choosing to bat, captain Rohit set the tone with an aggressive start, contributing a crucial 40 runs from 24 balls. Although he was dismissed by Rabada, his early blitz had already set the foundation. India put up an impressive batting performance in the early five overs.
Shubman Gill started well but couldn’t convert it into a big innings, as he dismissed by Maharaj. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer after a cautious start, began finding boundaries consistently once they settled. Shreyas Iyer in particular, picked up the pace and maintained the momentum. Lungi Ngidi out Shreyas Iyer at 77 runs.
Virat Kohli on his 35th birthday achieved his 49th ODI century milestone in 277 ODI innings, equalling a significant record with Sachin Tendulkar, which also includes 70 half-centuries. In ODI formats he scored over 13,000 runs. This century also marks Kohli’s fifth ODI century against South Africa, putting him on par with the likes of Tendulkar and Warne, who have also achieved the same feat against South Africa.
Jadeja came in and immediately accelerated the scoring, added the finishing touches. Despite Maharaj and Rabada delivering excellent spells, the rest of the bowlers were not at their best. India finished with 5/326.

Quinton de Kock leading the team with a tournament-high 545 runs and recording four centuries, opening the match with Captain Temba Bavuma. However, South Africa’s ability to chase scores has raised concerns. Their loss to the Netherlands could be seen as an anomaly, but they struggled to reach 271 against Pakistan, adding to the doubts surrounding their ability to successfully chase targets. On the 2nd over Siraj bowled Quinton de Kock. South Africa scored only 35 runs with the loss of three wickets in 1st 10 overs. Jadeja dismissed Temba Bavuma and Shami removed Aiden Markram. Indian bowlers put pressure on South African batsmen.
