India vs Afghanistan T20I series: BCCI announced India’s squad for three T20Is against Afghanistan. The series begins on January 11 in Mohali. Kohli and Rohit make a comeback for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have returned to India’s T20I squad, marking their comeback for the first time since the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Presence of Virat and Rohit would be beneficial as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The 9th edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place in the United States of America and the West Indies form June 01, 2024 to June 29, 2024. A total of 20 teams will be participated. The 20 teams divided into four groups of five teams.
Group A – India, Pakistan, Canada, Ireland, and the USA
Group B – England, Australia, Namibia, Oman, and Scotland
Group C – New Zealand, the West Indies, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda
Group D – Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Netherlands

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team, with Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson serving as the two wicketkeepers, as KL Rahul is unavailable for selection. Ravindra Jadeja also absent from this T20I series. Axar Patel makes a comeback to the side after being excluded from the tour of South Africa.
Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been ruled out from the series due to individual injuries. Surya and Hadik Pandya are down with ankle injuries. Shreyas Iyer was rested from this series.
Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav will serve as the leg-spinners, with Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Mukesh Kumar managing the pace department. The additional batters in the squad include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Tilak Varma.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been given a rest for the series.
As Rashid Khan is recovering from a recent back surgery, he is unlikely to play any games. In his absence, Ibrahim Zadran, who led Afghanistan to a 2-1 series victory against the UAE in Sharjah, will continue his captainship for Afghanistan against India.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman, absent from the recent three-match T20I series against the UAE, returns to the squad for the upcoming series against India. Ikram Alikhil, added to the main squad as the backup wicket-keeper batsman for India vs Afghanistan T20I series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed a 16-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.
