The first semi-final of the U19 World Cup between India and South Africa will take place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. India has maintained an unbeaten record in the tournament, convincingly triumphing over all their opponents thus far. The team boasts the top two run-getters, skipper Uday Saharan and Musheer Khan. Meanwhile, the hosts South Africa faced a setback against England in one group phase game but have otherwise displayed a solid campaign with four comprehensive victories.

Opting to bat first, Juan James saw Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Steve Stolk starting the innings on a shaky note. Raj Limbani provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Steve Stolk, followed by sending David Teeger back on a golden duck. But Pretorius continue to play at one end. By the end of the first power play, South Africa U19 had amassed 55 runs with the loss of two wickets.
Pretorius and Richard Seletswane then built a substantial partnership, consistently finding boundaries to maintain momentum. However, Musheer Khan broke this partnership by removing Lhuan-dre Pretorius. He played an impactful innings, contributing a crucial 76 runs.
The middle overs posed challenges, especially for Richard Seletswane, who struggled against Indian spinners, resulting in slow progress. Oliver Whitehead, adding 22 runs, fell victim to Musheer Khan. Despite the difficulties, Seletswane managed to accumulate runs, eventually reaching a score of 64 runs. Tristan Luus played a vital role in the final overs, contributing to a competitive total, with 81 runs scored in the last 10 overs. South Africa concluded their innings at 244/7.
For India, the spinners stood out as Saumy Pandey, Priyanshu Moliya, and Musheer Khan bowled a combined total of 27 overs, conceding just 106 runs while picking up three wickets.
Raj Limbani secured three wickets while Musheer Khan got two. Naman Tiwari and Saumy Pandey each contributed with one wicket.

At one point, India seemed to be in a precarious position at 32/4 with South Africa’s pacers dominating. However, Sachin Dhas who once again came to India’s rescue recovery alongside captain Uday Saharan. Together, they forged an extraordinary partnership of 171 runs, powered by Dhas’s impressive 96 runs off 95 balls. Dhas maintained the run rate while receiving support and encouragement from the captain at the other end.
After Dhas’s dismissal, the situation became tense. Nevertheless, Saharan guided his team to victory, handling the pressure admirably and adapting his innings according to the circumstances. Saharan contributed a crucial 81 runs.
South Africa’s leading pacers, Maphaka and Luus, displayed remarkable effort. Maphaka, especially, was outstanding throughout the tournament, contributing three crucial wickets, while Luus also claimed three wickets.
Once again India enters the U19 Men’s World Cup final.
