The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the shortlists for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for December 2023. The nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month include three standout performers from crucial ICC World Test Championship matches last month.

Pat Cummins has had an exceptional 12 months as the captain of Australia, capping off a remarkable year with his first nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips from the Blackcaps is the third contender for the December award, displaying heroics in the final Test against Bangladesh to level the series.

Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam also earns his inaugural nomination, showcasing impressive bowling displays in the series against New Zealand.

In the ICC Women’s Player of the Month shortlist for December, two key match-winners from India stand out, along with a Zimbabwe veteran who made a significant impact at the ICC Women’s T20WC Africa Qualifier.

Jemimah Rodrigues led India’s batting charge effectively in December, contributing valuable runs in Tests and ODIs against England and Australia. Completing the shortlist is Rodrigues’ teammate Deepti Sharma, recognized for her dynamic performances with both bat and ball against the same opposition.

Precious Marange played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s historic victory at the Africa Qualifier, highlighted by a remarkable hat-trick in the final match.

The nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December are:

Pat Cummins (Australia) – Recognized for his outstanding bowling performance that secured a series victory over Pakistan. He also nominated for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy at the ICC Awards 2023. He bowled his team to victory in the second Test in Melbourne, claiming ten wickets in the match, including a crucial five-for-48 in the second innings to secure victory. With a total of 13 wickets across the two Test matches, which also marked his 250th wicket in the longest format, Cummins is in the running for his first Player of the Month crown.

Taijul Islam (Bangladesh) – Earned his maiden nomination with impressive bowling displays in the series against New Zealand. He also marking his first nomination in the Player of the Month awards, played a crucial role, Bangladesh secured victory in the first Test against New Zealand in Sylhet. He took four wickets in the first innings and followed it up with a memorable six-for-75 in the second innings, leading to New Zealand falling short by 150 runs. He claimed another five wickets, earning him the Player of the Series.

Glenn Phillips (New Zealand) – Displayed heroics in the final Test against Bangladesh to level the series. He scored 87 out of New Zealand’s total of 180 runs and continued this impressive form with a match-winning 40 as New Zealand required to reach the required target of 137.

The nominees for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December are:
