Rahane fell early, and Mitchell, batting at 3, failed to make an impact once again. However, it was the Gaikwad show tonight. He was on from ball one and didn’t put a foot wrong. The timing, placement, and class were all on display as he made it count with his 2nd IPL hundred.
Jadeja was promoted to 4 again, but he didn’t make many runs. After that, it was the Dube-Gaikwad show. The left-hander displayed pure power as he dominated the LSG attack. The slower ball off-cutters on a good length into the pitch didn’t work at all as it sailed over deep mid-wicket far too many times. Dube’s innings was the difference in the end as CSK went past 200. The crowd got to see MS walk out and smash his only ball to the boundary.
CSK put up a superb effort to reach 210/4.

In a historic run-chase at Chepauk, LSG pulled off a double over CSK this season! It was all about one man in that run-chase. He hadn’t shown any real signs of being in this kind of form before tonight, but when push came to shove, Stoinis stood tall and got the job done.
Chasing 211, a score Shivam Dube said was about 10-15 above par, LSG got off to a poor start as they lost both openers early. It was a brutal struggle for Padikkal who came in next, and LSG were firmly behind the asking rate even as Stoinis struck cleanly from one end. Interestingly, though, LSG’s innings followed nearly the same trajectory as CSK’s.
The acceleration came right when LSG needed it as Stoinis and Pooran teed off. Pathirana got CSK back in the fold with the wicket of Pooran, but the CSK bowlers, with plenty of dew out there, simply couldn’t batten the hatches against Stoinis’ assault. They were hurt by a couple of crucial mis-fields from Deepak Chahar as well, and a little cameo from Deepak Hooda only aided the cause. With 17 needed off the last over, Stoinis got it done with 3 deliveries to spare.
